Last updated: October 25, 2026. Applies to WideCrop version 0.3.0.
WideCrop changes the zoom and position of accessible HTML5 video locally in your browser. This version does not send page content, browsing history, watched videos, video content or your settings to the developer or other parties. It has no analytics, advertising, tracking, account system, remote executable code or payment service.
Access to the current page
WideCrop activates on the current page when you open its toolbar popup or use one of its keyboard commands. Chrome grants temporary access to that tab through the activeTab permission. The scripting permission lets WideCrop run its packaged video controller in the top document. The extension does not automatically run on every website when you browse or request permanent access to all websites.
To provide framing, the controller locates accessible video elements and uses video dimensions, display styles and relevant page/media lifecycle events. It may inspect the current page’s hostname to choose its YouTube integration. This information is used locally; page addresses and hostnames are not saved or sent to the developer. WideCrop does not read form values, messages or passwords, does not read the pixels inside video frames, and does not download media files.
Local settings and framing
The storage permission is used for settings in Chrome’s local extension storage on your device. These settings include the popup language, zoom and pan step sizes, and whether to remember framing. WideCrop does not use Chrome storage sync or its own cloud service.
Remember framing is off by default. While it is off, framing values are kept in memory for the current document. After you enable it, subsequent framing commands save the last numeric zoom and pan values locally and can restore them when you next activate the extension. This is a global setting, not a per-site or per-video history. No page URL, domain, page title, video ID or viewing history is stored with it.
You can change these preferences in the extension settings and turn off remembered framing. Uninstalling the extension removes its local extension storage. Chrome itself manages keyboard assignments and extension installation information under its own policies.
Communication within the browser
The popup reads WideCrop’s actual keyboard assignments and exchanges commands and video availability/framing status with the extension’s worker and page controller. These messages remain within your browser. WideCrop does not use the browser history API or upload diagnostics.
Links and support
The shortcut configuration button opens Chrome’s extension shortcut settings. The support link opens your email application only when you click it. Your email provider handles any message you choose to send under its own privacy policy. The developer receives the content and return address of messages you voluntarily send for support or privacy questions and uses them to respond. Do not include passwords or private browsing details. The extension does not automatically send email, attach page data, or transmit a diagnostic report.

Data use and changes
Information accessed by WideCrop is used only to provide the video framing and settings described above. It is not sold, used for advertising, or shared by the extension with third parties. WideCrop’s use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
We will update this policy if the extension’s data practices change. Possible future paid features are not part of this version and do not change the practices described here.
