WideCrop

Status: WideCrop 0.3.0 is a free pre-release candidate under verification. It has not yet been submitted to or published in the Chrome Web Store. No public installation link is available yet.

WideCrop is a Chrome extension for manually zooming and repositioning accessible HTML5 video. It is particularly useful on ultrawide 21:9 and 32:9 displays where the visible picture may not fill the screen the way you want.

What it can do

  • Zoom video from 100% to 500%, with common 100%, 125%, 150% and 200% presets.
  • Move the visible picture horizontally or vertically, reset framing or temporarily pause adjustments.
  • Control framing through the toolbar popup or registered keyboard shortcuts, including in fullscreen.
  • Set adjustment step sizes and optionally remember the last framing values on this device.
  • Use the extension interface in English, Russian, German, Spanish, French or Brazilian Portuguese.

Compatibility and limitations

YouTube is the primary integration and testing target. Other accessible HTML5 video in the top-level document is best-effort. Cross-origin embedded players, Picture-in-Picture, protected browser pages and every website layout are not guaranteed to work. WideCrop does not download videos or automatically detect black bars.

Privacy

For this version, video framing and settings are handled locally in the browser. There are no accounts, analytics, tracking, advertising or payment services. Please read the WideCrop privacy policy for complete details.
